Treatment Overview.

Many clinicians prefer to use CCRT for patients with AKI who are hemodynamically unstable. Its slow but continuous urea clearance helps to avoid spikes in blood urea nitrogen (BUN) levels.

CRRT’s advantages can include improved management of acid–base status, electrolyte balance and the swings associated with intracerebral water.

Eligibility For Treatment.

Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) which is advised for renal failure patients has short-term and long-term benefits. Short-term benefits of CRRT

Preparation Before Treatment.

Before your first dialysis treatment, your doctor will surgically implant a tube or device to gain access to your bloodstream. This is typically a quick operation. You should be able to return home the same day.

It’s best to wear comfortable clothing during your dialysis treatments. Also follow your doctor’s instructions. These may include fasting for a certain amount of time before the treatment.

About Treatment.

Embodying an extracorporeal process, the CRRT device ensures removal by catheter of blood and its circulation via a peristaltic blood pump through a semipermeable membrane before the blood is returned to the patient.

This procedure is performed 12 to 24 hours a day, generally every day.

Post-Treatment Care Treatment.

It may take three months or longer to recover from acute renal failure. If you have healthy kidneys before entering the hospital, you have a greater than 90% chance of recovering. If you already have chronic kidney damage, you are less likely to recover.

Treatment Recovery Tips.

Maintaining good blood pressure can help slow the deterioration of your kidney. Drink fluids to avoid dehydration. Talk to your doctor before taking any anti-inflammatory drugs, including ibuprofen (Advil) and diclofenac (Solaraze, Voltaren).

Treatment FAQs.

How long do patients stay on CRRT?

A general surgical patient may survive after 6 or more days of CRRT, and this survival is likely based on the presence of a correctable problem. We do not encourage the blanket statement that all general surgical patients with multiple-system organ failure should not be allowed to continue CRRT after 6 days.
