An Aortic aneurysm is a swelling or a bulge in the main blood vessel, the Aorta, that transports blood to all the parts of the body. The bulge is mainly formed due to illness or carried from the genes that result in the weakened walls of the aorta and lead to the formation of the bulge.
This bulge can go on increasing and carries the possibility of an outburst that can cause an emergency. The chances of bursting the aorta increases when the diameter is doubled.
In the case of increased swelling, an aortic aneurysm repair surgery is likely to be performed while minimal swelling can be healed with medications.
